LVVTA Aftermarket Steering Column Safety Alert - Photos

In support of yesterday's entry about the Steering Column issues under 'General Discussion' , check out the below photos:

Auckland's Paul Haaker has been building this 60' El Camino and assumed that the aftermarket column he purchased would be up tp the job of safely steering his pride & joy.  This photo shows the angle change within the tilt mechanism to position the steering wheel at a comfortable position.

Paul's column was purchased via the internet from a lower North Island Hot Rod Shop, and advertised as a 'Helix' brand.

The connection of the two steering shaft sections at the tilt mechanism relies on this poorly made plastic bush, which has - in brand new condition - fallen completely to bits, and left the car without steering.

Products

Are there any great car products that you would like to recommend to others?  Are there products you would like some information on or feedback about that perhaps someone else has used?  Is there a business around the country that you would like to recommend to other motorists?

Battery Tenders

Over the years I've been frustrated at the number of flat or dead batteries I have, so I purchased from the US two battery savers.  Awesome, but a little expensive.  I have found a less expensive battery save/charger which I'm trying now.

The outcome? ....... Well I can tell you I’m extremely pleased.  Less money and equally as good as what I bought from the US.  They come with a two year warranty and we have elected to promote two models:

WATERPROOF JUNIOR - DS 022-0150

$89.00 - Freight Free within NZ

Americarna members receive a 10% discount.

800 milliamps.  3 step charging (initialisation, bulk charge, float/maintenance).  Spark proof and waterproof.  Full automatic switching form charge float.  Short circut and reverse polarity protected.  Supplied with both alligator type clips and permanent wiring loom for easy, no hassle connection regardless of battery location.

INTERNATIONAL PLUS - DT022-0139

$125.00 - Freight Free within NZ

Americarna members receive a 10% discount.

1.25 AMP, 4 Step charging (initialisation, bulk charge, absorbption mode, float/maintenance). Temperature compensated.  Spark proof.  Short circut and reverse polarity protected.  Supplied with both alligator type clips and permanent wiring loom for easy, no hassle connection regardless of battery location.
