For the locals of Invercargill, not on convoy, Registration will be open from 10.00am. We have organised a private tour from 1.30pm - 5.00pm of the Bill Richardson Truck Museum. This collection is mind blowing and the opportunity to view it should not be missed. Parking for the museum will be at Stadium Southland.
Thursday 25th March 2010 - The Inaugural Cruise of Americarna Invercargill!
We will be assembling at Stadium Southland ready to depart for the first ever Americarna Invercargill cruise at 10.00am. The first leg of today's run will take us to Riverton and a fantastic scenic cruise through this picturesque sea side town. Next destination is Tuatapere. Here you can stop, stretch your legs and take the opportunity to purchase a two course lunch, prepared especially for us by Hauroko Valley Primary School - Home & School Parent Group. 1.00pm will see us depart Tuatapere and head back to Invercargill. Along the way don't forget to take in and enjoy the beautiful Southland countryside.
Once back in Invercargill we are working on the possibility of continuing the cruise through Queens Park. Then first half of entrants will have the chance to visit Hayes Hardware from 3.00pm - Home of a large collection of Burt Munroe's World's Fastest Indian memorabilia. A collection owned by the local Hayes family. A Must see! Entry is by gold coin donation and all proceeds will go to the Southland branch of the NZ Down Syndrome Association. The early evening leaves you free to relax, dine or enjoy a refreshment at one of the local establishments. Then from 8.00pm come join us for American Movie Night. Tonight we will be showing a good old classic American movie at Stadium Southland.
Friday 26th March 2010
Day three of the event heads us off to Gore. All cars are to be in at Stadium Southland ready to head off at 10.00am sharp, and sharp it will be. Americarna is well known for its timetable punctuality - if it says 10.00am, then it is 10.00am. Once we hit Gore all the cars will park up in the main CBD area. Here we will stop for lunch. The finer details of this stop are still in the planning stages but we can assure you that the locals will be out in force to welcome you.
1.30pm is time to start heading off again. This time a different route will be taken on our return to Invercargill. We will take the drive to Lumsden onto Winton then Invercargill. The cruise will take you through some more of the beautiful Southland area with the Mountains providing an incredible back drop to the countryside.
Once back in Invercargill the second half of entrants will have the opportunity to visit Hayes Hardware and its notorious World's Fastest Indian collection from 3.00pm. It's also a time to relax, refuel yourselves and your cars ready for the Friday Night Main Street Cruise. A road closure will take effect on Dee and Tay streets late in the day to be ready for cruising to start at 6.30pm.
