Based in Otahuhu, Auckland, OCP has been chrome plating for more than 50 years. A family owned and operated business, founder, Bob Pearson (pictured), can still be found in the workshop five days a week, hands-on chroming and passing on his decades of experience and knowledge to the staff; several of whom have been with the business for more than 15 years. What you may not realise, is that OCP doesn’t only chrome items; the business can start the process of restoring your ‘magpie bait’, whatever it may be, right from the process of chemical stripping of the old chrome or paint. Full repairs can also be carried out in house, again with the traditional hammer and file methods, and including welding.
Once stripped and, if necessary, repaired, your part is linished and polished to a mirror finish to remove any pitting etcetera. It’s then cleaned, acid etched and coated in cyanide copper followed by bright acid copper. The copper layers too, are highly polished, before the part is nickeled and given its final chrome coating. OCP even goes as far as to carry the finish through to the bits you don’t always see, such as applying heat resistant enamel to the inside of bumpers. OCP can also plate aluminium, and even has a full metal polishing shop for steel, aluminium, stainless steel, brass… anything metal you want sparkling OCP CAN POLISH IT. Does it end there? No, OCP has a hard chrome division for the likes of pistons, rollers, Rams and cams, and is also an agent for HPC so items can be left with OCP to be stripped and polished before being sent to HPC for coating. OCP also highly polishes aluminium parts and 2 pot lacquers them for less maintenance required. We also polish and 2 pot lacquer copper, brass and bronze parts.
