After a year off, Americarna returns to Taranaki with the dates confirmed for:
26th February – 1st March 2014
We are thrilled to be back cruising the Taranaki province and can’t wait to have you join us.
We have a fantastic event in the planning and to follow is what’s on the itinerary!
Tuesday 25th February:
Today is a ‘registration only’ day for those in town or arriving into town. Both Registration and Merchandise will be open from 12:00noon – 9:00pm. You will find us at the Pukekura Raceway (New Plymouth Racecourse) off Rogan Street. This is our home base for the event; you must come and check in here before you participate in the event. You will become very familiar with home base as this is where we start each day’s cruise.
From 4:00pm - 7:00pm we invite you to our Entrant Welcome Function, which will be held at Home Base. Come along and enjoy a catch up with old friends and get in the Americarna mode ready to kick off on Wednesday morning. There will be bar facilities and light food for purchase.
Registration and Merchandise Hours for Tuesday:
12:00 noon - 9:00pm
Wednesday 26th February:
Today we leave at 10:00am sharp for our first ever cruise out to Whangamomona! For those of you that have no idea, Whanga is out the back of Stratford and is situated along the famous Forgotten World Highway SH43. It is a small farming community famous for declaring itself a republic back in 1989. At their biennial republic day they vote in a president; 1999 saw Billy Gumboot the goat become the first elected animal. He won the election by eating the other challenger’s ballots. Sadly he died in office after serving for 18 months. The republic now have a living human president in the name of Murt Kennard duly re-elected in 2013 after a vote rigging scandal was discovered.
You will have the opportunity to pre-book a rail cart and take an hour tour along the decommissioned railway through the Forgotten World Highway – departing from the Whangamomona Hotel. Click here for more information.
Be warned – while the roads out to Whanga are all sealed and in good condition they do get windy. But we can guarantee you the trip worthwhile. The locals are fantastic and will be going to a great deal of effort to welcome us for a Whanga experience to remember!
You can cruise back at your leisure after lunch. For more information on what else you will find along the Forgotten World Highway CLICK HERE.
From 4:00pm - 7:00pm we again invite you to join us at Home Base. Meet your friends, enjoy catching up on the days activities, relax and make your plan for the evening. Bar facilities and light food will be available for purchase.
If you're looking for something to do this evening, head down to Crowded House Bar & Cafe; the Official Bar of Americarna. Tonight is Quizz Night from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. Grab Crowdy's $15 meal deal, take a seat and put your knowledge to the test!

Thursday 27th February:
Departure time today is 12:00noon – yes a sleep in! Or perhaps an opportunity to get in some shopping, a walk in the beautiful Pukekura park or along the coastal walkway.
Our first stop today is Waitara. Here we will be parked in the main street where the locals will welcome us with open arms; time to grab some lunch and enjoy the fantastic hospitality and soak up the fun atmosphere the town has become renowed for.
3:30pm – Time to depart and make our way to Inglewood via the Tarata tunnel. The locals of Inglewood are famous for showcasing what great things small Taranaki communities have to offer! This year will be no exception. A mini concert is on the agenda, so bring your deck chair, grab some dinner from one of the food vendors, sit back and enjoy or dance the evening away!
You are free to leave from 8:00pm.
Once back in New Plymouth cruise on down to Crowded House Bar & Cafe where there will be a band playing until late.

Friday 28th February:
It’s time to head to South Taranaki today so be at the racecourse ready to leave by 9:30am. The friendly community of Stratford has invited us back so this will be our first stop, time to regroup, grab some morning tea and have a look around town.
11:30am – Back on the road again where Hawera is our next destination. We will cruise to the CBD where we will be parked and treated to some more of the outstanding Taranaki hospitality.
2:30pm - It’s time to head back to your cars for a short drive to the TSB Hub where we will stage a GymCARna event. Our first GymCARna in 2012 was such a great spectator show we’ve included it again this year. Entries are open now and numbers are limited. CLICK HERE for more info.
On our return to New Plymouth we will cruise to the CBD via Mangorei Road. The Mangorei Road Street Party has been a huge spectacle in past years, so it’s back on the agenda! We can’t wait to see all the residents lining the street in their deck chairs and couches, waving, cheering and BBQing! From Mangorei Road it’s onto the Friday night Main Street Cruise. The cruise route will be open at 6:00pm and will remain open until 9:30pm.

Entry will be completely FREE to the public and includes a main street static display of entrant vehicles, bands/music, great food, shopping and a huge playground for the kids.
6:30pm: A pre function dinner will be available at the TSB Stadium. The Stadium has new caterers and we’re going to give them the opportunity to shine and create us the best meal yet! CLICK HERE for the menu & pricing.
8:00pm: The after party begins. What a perfect way to end a great week; kick up your heels, let your hair down and party the night away with the Che Orton Band!
This year’s theme will be Rock n Roll / Rockabilly
Think along the lines of the 1950’s – rockabilly/rock n roll music, Greasers - leather jackets & rolled up levi's, winkle pickers & brothel creepers, greased up hair - front quiffs & rear duck's butt, pencil or swing skirts, bobby socks, neck scarves, Happy Days, Fonzie, the Pink Ladies & Elvis.
