Explore our walkways.....
From the CBD there are a number of scenic walkways that showcase the city. The award winning New Plymouth Coastal Walkway is a great place to start, and can be explored on foot or on a pedal powered ‘Wind Wanderer’ or bike which can be rented from the Wind Wand sculpture adjoining the CBD. The Te Henui and Huatoki walkways head inland, and are great for a midday run, cycle or stroll.
...our parks and gardens...
The beautiful Pukekura Park is just a 10-minute walk from the CBD and is worth taking time to explore. It has a popular kiosk providing a range of refreshments, a great playground and numerous walks around lakes and other botanical highlights.
....or our swimming spots
A 10-minute walk from the CBD leads to the city’s waterfront Aquatic Centre, a must do for those with children. If you’re feeling more adventurous, head right at the wind wand to East End or Fitzroy beaches for a swim in the legendary Taranaki surf.
...or some local history and culture
On the waterfront is Puke Ariki, the district’s combined museum, library and i-SITE visitor information centre. Here you’ll discover the natural and human history of New Plymouth and its surround. Also worth checking out is the Real TArt Gallery (short for Taranaki Art), just around the corner, and the array of boutique art and design stores throughout the CBD.
