Proudly brought to you by
Wow, what a few months it has been! We are finally thrilled to present to you the revised 2015 Americarna event.
Here’s what we have going on:
Wednesday 25th February:
Today registration will open in the afternoon. Rock on into town at your leisure, get checked in for the event at the Registration Centre and gear up in your Americarna merchandise. You will find the Registration Centre, also known as ‘Home Base’ at the TSB Stadium, right next to the Racecourse, off Rogan Street, New Plymouth. This is where we gather each morning before departing for each day’s cruise.
Registration & Merchandise hours for Wednesday
3:00pm – 6:00pm
Thursday 26th February:
Our departure time todays allows you to take it easy today. Have brunch or lunch in town, take time to get in more shopping or take a leisurely walk in the beautiful Pukekura Park or along our scenic coastal walkway. But be sure to be at home base in plenty of time to park and be ready to cruise off at 2:30pm.
Our destination today is Inglewood via the scenic route. We will head to Waitara and cruise through the main street first before going ‘country’ via the Tarata Tunnel to Inglewood.
Once in Inglewood you will be parked in the closed road area of the main street for a Show n Shine and Street Party.
From 8:00pm you can head back to New Plymouth.
Registration & Merchandise hours for Thursday
10:00am – 6:00pm
Friday 27th February:
Around the Mountain cruise day! Be at the racecourse ready to leave by 9:30am. Our first stop will be Opunake for a morning tea break where we can re-group before hitting the road again.
12:15pm – Back on the road again. This time Hawera is our destination. We will cruise to the CBD, park up for a Show n Shine and be treated to some more of the outstanding Taranaki hospitality.
We have something a bit different planned while in Hawera this year. Instead of running a GymCARna event we are putting together ‘Go - Stop’ drags. What is Go - Stop?
Go – Stop is an event where competitors charge off from the start line and head for a set of cones at the other end of the straight. When they reach the other end they have to come to a complete stop inside the cones and the competitor that completes this task in the fastest time is the winner. This discipline needs a combination of good acceleration and braking capabilities - the big more horsepower cars can get away quicker, but smaller, more nimble cars stop quicker. The straight is long enough you will have to shift a gear or two!
This will be run within the CBD area and you will be able to stay in town longer, do some shopping, eat lunch at your leisure and enjoy the atmosphere, entertainment and watch the Go – Stop.
4:45pm - From Hawera we head back to New Plymouth straight into Friday night Main Street cruising via the Mangorei Road street party. The spectacle on Mangorei Road in 2014 was like we have never seen before as was the crowd on Devon Street. Look out in 2015 as we believe it will be even better again!
Registration & Merchandise hours for Friday
8:00am – 10:00am
This is your last chance to register
Saturday 28th February:
AmeriCARnival day! For the first time in 2014 we dropped the Country Fair to take the festivities into the New Plymouth CBD for a free event for all the general public to attend. We received such positive feedback we have decided to include it on the itinerary for 2015. Today you will be parked in town from 10:00am – 3:00pm. Your cars will be on display for the public to enjoy while you take in some shopping, enjoy the entertainment around town or stroll through the beautiful Pukekura Park or along the Coastal Walkway.
There will be entrant prizes presented that afternoon, but you must be there to claim your prize!
From here Americarna 2015 officially comes to an end. If you’re staying on we have a couple of suggestions for you to fill your evening:
1. Sol3 Mio is playing at the Bowl of Brooklands. The Bowl is a world renowned venue right in the middle of the beautiful setting of Pukekura Park. The below websites will give you more information and ticketing options:
2. New Plymouth Rodders are hosting a function at the New Plymouth Club. Cover charge is $20 per head. There will be a band playing in a private function room and you are able to purchase meals at the Club prior – great value for money! Tickets for entry are required and can be purchased at the Registration Centre during the event.
3. The Mayfair – Live music! Local bands The Slacks will be playing from 4:00pm with Azweare playing from 8:00pm until late – food specials will be on offer.
Taranaki has plenty of great sights to see. So if you’re staying on check out the Taranaki Like No Other website to plan your activities and ensure you don’t miss out on all the province has to offer – www.taranaki.info.
We thank you for your patience while we sorted the revised event and deeply appreciate the support you have all shown during this time!
